Powys Regeneration DVD
Powys County Council Regeneration team commissioned a bi-lingual DVD to capture and showcase their "Go And See" project. This enabled local stakeholders to visit inspiring examples of community-led regeneration solutions to local problems. |
Four case studies are featured: the Gwynedd village of Abergonolwyn's new community centre, housing a hall for local activities and an income generating Tourist Information point, Post Office and cafe; Fordhall Community Land Initiative, in Shropshire, owned by 8000 local community shareholders, runs Fordhall Organic Farm as an educational resource; Narberth's creation of local business directories to show the benefits of spending money in ones own community; and Galeri - the flagship theatre and arts centre in Caerarfon, which attracted large public capital investment, yet generates 90% of its own running costs from project-led fundraising.
The case studies show that what's important is to imagine how things could be different. A relatively small number of individuals can muster a plan and then work in conjunction with the agencies and local government institutions. Partnerships of stakeholders can be formed, contributing expertise and acting as a focus for funding.
