"The Churches Conservation Trust took a bold step when deciding how to interpret the extraordinary history of one of their 'retired' churches - St Lawrence in Eveshrn present the story of the church using a brochure or a new information panel, they chose instead to work with The Rural Media Company and allowed them to re-interpret this ancient space with a group of young people from the town.
The result is a very dramatic short film - From These Stones. Creating this film enabled the young people to not only learn about their own heritage and community but to also powerfully express their own deepest feelings and concerns about the world around them.
Once again The Rural Media Company has demonstrated their extraordinary skill in locating great filmmaking within a social and educational context and given young people the creative opportunity to shape, perform in and produce a remarkable piece of work."

St Lawrence’s, like many churches, cannot now be maintained for its original purpose and is cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust. The Evesham St Lawrence Re-Mixed project gave young people from Evesham, and the surrounding area, the opportunity to create a new short film drama based on the role the church has played in shaping the community's beliefs, attitudes and ideas.

The group began work on the project in April, researching the history and heritage of the church. Local historian Andrew Pike explained the background to the church and detailed St Lawrence's turbulent journey through history. Director Rachel Lambert, Screenwriter Peter Cox, and Regional Coordinator for The Churches Conservation Trust Jo Cross, then explored the ideas with the young people further. Peter also explored the nature and structure of screen drama with the group and then worked them to devise the storyline that would eventually go on to form the basis of the screenplay From these Stones.
Rachel Lambert, accompanied by Cameraman Martin Finney and Sound Recordist Ian Preece, worked with the group to bring the screenplay to life. Members of the group were trained in every aspect of film production, from camera and sound opertation to acting for the screen. The film shoot took place over three hectic days in July and premiered at St Lawrence's in October 2009.
