Production: Film and Video:
Move Up, Move On

Commissioned by the Education Service for Travelling Children, this film gives an honest and energetic account of Gypsy children’s experiences in education.  Traditionally, Gypsy parents have been reluctant to send their children into the education system and the system itself has often ignored and tolerated prejudice about Gypsy culture within schools.

The children in this video took part in media workshops with The Rural Media Company’s filmmaker, Adrian Lambert, to get to know each other and better express their worries and their enthusiasms about starting and staying on at secondary school.  We set out to make a film which authentically reflects their views and gives a sense of quiet optimism about future relations between Travelling children and schools.
