14/08/08 FILM UPDATE

Bleeding Poof is nearing completion and available to watch online here from mid-October.

Bleeding Poof is the short film produced as part of Sticks and Stones, a project which brought together isolated young gay men and women to actively challenge homophobic prejudice and bullying.

After developing story ideas online and at script workshops in Herefordshire, the Sticks youth group were invited to take part and work with a professional crew to make the film.

Filmed around rural Herefordshire, locations such as deserted farm barns, quiet country lanes and open fields all feature in this powerful new drama, set in a not-so-idyllic community where filthy looks and cruel jibes have very shocking results.

Please come back to watch the film and let us know what you think...

24/06/08 SHOOTING UPDATE

The Sticks and Stones film shoot took place during the first week of June. Our chosen actors - Simon, Hannah, Emma and Chris - together with our crew descended on Hereford to film the Sticks youth group's chosen script. Rural locations included farm barns, deserted country lanes and open fields while the rest of the shoot took place in Hereford city centre.

Emma, who's been involved with the project since she joined the online forum, said "It was surreal to be filming a gay-themed story in Hereford because that's where I grew up and I got my fair share of abuse. Whereas in big cities like London and Brighton there are more support groups around that can keep young gay people safe, here we didn't have that. We had one pub which had a 'back bar' we could use one night a week. It was the only place to go to meet other gay people."

The film will be edited over the summer and available on this website, YouTube, Myspace, Facebook and on DVD from September.

12/5/08 STORY ONE IS FIRST CHOICE

Following the latest script meeting on Wednesday 7th May, the youth group has decided to go with STORY 1. Everyone who commented on each synopsis online also seemed to prefer the first option so work will now begin on putting together the shooting schedule, set for the first week of June. As soon as the final script is finished it will be posted here on the Sticks and Stones forum for everyone to read. We're also trying to come up with a good title for the film, so if anyone has any suggestions, let us know!

02/04/08 SCRIPTING IN THE STICKS

The Sticks and Stones youth group met at the end of March in Herefordshire for a weekend of group discussions, script workshops …and even pizza-making!

On Saturday 29th March, the group spent the day Stretton Sugwas Village Hall, getting to know each other, learning about each others backgrounds and exchanging experiences about being young, gay and in the sticks.

On Sunday 30th March at Hampton Bishop Village Hall, the group watched various clips from films varying from low-budget edgy work to bigger budget Hollywood movies, and discussed their own film likes and dislikes. The day ended on the group deciding on 2 potential scripts to take forward and they’ll meet again in May to choose their favourite which will be made as the final short Sticks and Stones film.

In the meantime professional filmmaker John Humphreys will put those draft scripts together and they’ll be posted here very soon for everyone to read and comment on.
